COLD OPEN

The room is dimly lit.

A haze of smoke hangs beneath old fluorescent lights.

CHLOR sits behind a cluttered desk.

The door opens.

JONAS enters.

A worn black jacket over civilian clothes.

He looks tired.

Concerned.

Not like a man conducting a criminal transaction.

Like a man running out of options.

Chlor gestures toward a chair.

CHLOR:
You wanted to see me.

Jonas sits.

He reaches into his jacket and removes a small device.

An EIC.

He places it on the desk.

Chlor glances at it.

CHLOR:
What's this?

JONAS:
An EIC.

CHLOR:
I can see that.

Jonas looks at the device.

JONAS:
There's something on it.

CHLOR:
Like what?

JONAS:
That's what I need to find out.

Chlor picks it up.

Turns it over.

CHLOR:
You can't get into it yourself?

JONAS:
If I could, I wouldn't be here.

A beat.

CHLOR:
What's got you so interested?

Jonas hesitates.

JONAS:
Somebody I trust is keeping something from me. And I think that something is on here.

CHLOR:
And what if they come looking for this…

JONAS:
They won’t. Just tell me you have somebody who can find out what’s on here.

Silence.

Chlor studies the EIC.

CHLOR:
Might know somebody.

CHLOR:
Problem is... he’s on the asteroid.

JONAS:
If he’s so good, why is he on the asteroid?

CHLOR:
Look… he’s the best there is.

JONAS:
How much longer does he have on the asteroid?

CHLOR:
Rumor is two years, but nobody knows for sure.

JONAS:
I’ll take care of that part. You just make sure he comes through with this.

CHLOR:
He will.

JONAS:
What’s his name?

CHLOR:
Lijho. Lijho Moreno.
