Episode 1
ALWAYS END EVERY EPISODE WITH a painting looking shot of a recap of the episode and ACTION MUSIC TO JUXTAPOSE. DEADMAU5 - A CITY IN FLORIDA starting at 1:32. have it fade into the last bits of the scene so the climax makes the black screen and closing credits
USE MULTI-SCREEN SHOTS TO GIVE COMIC BOOK EFFECT, TO HIGHLIGHT DIFFERENT ASPECT RATIOS, AND MAKE THE OVERALL LOOK MORE DYNAMIC.
FOR SCENE TRANSITIONS, USE MULTI-SCREEN TECHNIQUE, BUT MAKE THAT PART THE PART THAT USES THE REALISTIC LOOKING SHOTS. HAVE THE ANIME FREEZE FRAME, THEN HAVE THE LIVE ACTION CLOSE OUT THE SCENE, AND THE LIVE ACTION BEGINNING THE NEXT SCENE TO SET THE SCENE
FOR CERTAIN TERMINOLOGY UNIQUE TO THE PASEO STAR SYSTEM, FREEZE FRAME WHEN IT IS SPOKEN AND HAVE A BLACK BOX WITH THE WORD AND DEFINITION APPEAR
1A
Establishing shot of Paseo with asteroids drifting through space. From left to right, a large asteroid drifts by, use the asteroid as a mask to wipe the transition to the next shot.
Multiscreen shot of the prison complex. Silence except for when the text appears. Have a subtle sound to establish the text appearing. Begin to overlay sounds from inside the prison.
Multiscreen shots of the source of the sounds- wooshing of oxygen coming in through the vents, the establishing shot of the cell block, the humming of the red forcefield,
Establishing shot of the intake room from the outside. The murmur of talking inmates can be heard from the other side of the door. The subtitle appears to show it’s a translation of the sign over the door.
The inmates sit in the intake room nervous and uncertain about what to expect from the prison, as well as each other. Footsteps can be heard approaching as the Lieutenant walks in.
The prison lieutenant walks in, his identity hidden by his helmet.
He is accompanied by two “Arm Drones”. Faceless androids that serve the role as prison guards inside the Genocy compound.
LIEUTENANT
(as LIEUTENANT is talking, cut to the things he is talking about one by one, and overlay the audio so it’s just loud enough to hear. The buzzing of the tattoo laser, the humming of the different colored gates)
"Inmates, your attention. I am Lieutenant XXX. This is what is to be your orientation to this facility. You are to pay attention, as none of this will be repeated, and once you leave this room you will be expected to know and conform to the rules. Before entering this room, each of you received a tattoo on the back of your neck. That tattoo identifies you as an inmate of Genocy-A. It was applied with a technology that makes it so it can only be removed at this prison system. Should you ever somehow try and manage to escape this facility, that tattoo will identify you as a prisoner everywhere you go. Only when you are released from this prison will the tattoo be removed. Around your neck is a collar. That collar is what allows you movement throughout this compound. There are forcefields all throughout this prison. Pay close attention to the light color on your collar. You may ONLY pass through the field that matches the color of your light. If your light is red, you will be able to move through red fields. If your light is blue, you will only be able to move through blue fields. The purple field is the only field that no colors can move through. Think of purple as lockdown. Around the inside of your collar is an iris. If you attempt to remove the collar, the iris will close and your head will go with it. These are Arm Drones. They guard and keep watch over this facility and everyone in it, including you.. and me. Our collars are green, which allows us access to any field in this complex. For those of you who may be thinking about it, escape is not possible. If you’re thinking about having someone come and break you out of here, this compound is built into one of thousands of asteroids in orbit. You are a needle in a planet-sized haystack.”
[LIEUTENANT‘s VOICE TRAILS OFF AS THE FIRST SHOT OF 1B CUTS IN.]
1B
Lijho sits on his bed listening to the sound of two Arm Drones coming down the hallway. Because they use MagLev based movement, their movement sounds like an electric train instead of footsteps.
He sits up in bed as he hears the unlatching of the door on the other side of the red field.
[THE DOOR OPENS AND THE ARM DRONES SPEAK IN UNISON]
ARM DRONES:
Inmate 70429-083 please gather your belongings. We are to transport you to the Release & Discharge area.
[LIJHO HEARS HIS COLLAR DOUBLE BEEP, INDICATING THE COLOR HAS CHANGED. DIPTYCH OF HIM HOLDING HIS HAND UP TO HIS COLLAR LOOKING AT THE REFLECTION, AND A CLOSE UP SHOT FROM HIS POV SHOWING THE BLUE LIGHT REFLECTING OFF HIS HAND. THIS IS HOW INMATES MONITOR THEIR COLORS]
LIJHO:
Finally.
[LIJHO HAS A BAG THAT IS ALREADY PACKED AND READY TO GO UNDER HIS BED. HE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MORNING TO COME. HE STANDS AND BEGINS TO WALK TOWARD THE DOOR, BUT STOPS AND TURNS TO TAKE A LAST LOOK AT HIS CELL, WHAT HAS BEEN HIS HOME FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS]
LIJHO:
(louder than a whisper, but under his breath)
Three fuckin’ years.
ARM DRONES:
Inmate 70429-083 please gather your belongings. We are to transport you to the Release & Discharge area.
[LIJHO TURNS AND PASSES THROUGH THE RED FIELD AND WALKS OUT OF HIS CELL. THE CAMERA STAYS ON THE DOORWAY SLOWLY DESCENDING TOWARD THE FLOOR AS THE LARGE METAL DOOR TO HIS CELL CLOSES, AND THE RED FORCEFIELD BUZZES AND DEACTIVATES, SYMBOLIZING FINALITY. THE CAMERA STAYS ON THE DOOR FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AS THE AUDIO FROM THE NEXT SCENE FADES IN]
1C
[LIJHO IS SEEN SHIRTLESS STANDING IN AN EMPTY ROOM WITH A TRAPEZOIDAL SHAPED WINDOW LOOKING OUT OVER PASEO. HE STANDS SHIRTLESS IN BLACK CARGO PANTS ADMIRING THE VIEW, CONTEMPLATING HIS SOON TO BE FREEDOM. A MAN IN THE SAME UNIFORM AS THE LIEUTENANT ENTERS THE ROOM, BUT LIJHO DOESN’T EVEN LOOK BACK AT HIM.
ON THE FLOOR NEXT TO THE MAN, AN IRIS IN THE FLOOR OPENS, AND A SMALL CYLINDRICAL TABLE RISES FROM IT CONTAINING A SMALL TOOL BOX]
OFFICER:
Please don’t move. I’m going to remove your collar and your tattoo. Then you can put your shirt back on and go into the next room.
A CLOSE UP OF LIJHO’S BLUE COLLAR LIGHT SLOWLY DIMMING AND GOING OUT. THE OFFICER THEN USES A SMALL DEVICE THE SIZE OF A SCREWDRIVER THAT FLICKERS A BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT TO REMOVE THE TATTOO ON THE BACK OF HIS NECK. THE CAMERA SHOWS THE BACK OF HIS NECK SMOOTH AND UNHARMED, AS LIJHO RUBS HIS NECK TO FEEL WHERE THE TATTOO WAS. IT’S LIKE IT NEVER EVEN HAPPENED]
Multi-screen between the rubbing neck shot and a vertical shot of Lijho still shirtless in black cargo pants with a black belt, putting on a white shirt, backlit by the white light of the prison room. A panoramic windows shows space and the green planet of Paseo below. He grabs his backpack of his belongings and walks through the doorway into the next room.
The camera cuts to the next room, and the room appears empty except for a kiosk, and a screen on the wall. Three glowing rings on the floor move in concentric circles. The camera cuts to the screen of the kiosk with a map of Paseo and its various cities. An Arm Drone is standing next to the kiosk.
ARM DRONE:
"Use the interactive map to locate a Ryuka. When you’re ready, tell me the Ryuka number to begin transport.
The screen dims and freeze frame. Definition marker for Ryuka appears on screen to explain what a Ryuka is.
LIJHO:
722
ARM DRONE:
Ryuka 722. Nova zone-C. If you wish to make any changes, please do so now. Please be advised- you are transporting from a Genocy facility, therefore this will be a one-way transport. It is not possible to return once you have transported off Genocy-A. If you’re ready for transport, please stand inside the rings.
[LIJHO WALKS OVER TO THE WHITE RINGS ON THE FLOOR AND STANDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THEM. THE ARM DRONE INSERTS HIS HAND THAT CONSISTS OF A KEY-SHAPED STICK INTO A HOLE IN THE KIOSK]
ARM DRONE:
Transport will begin in 3… 2… 1…
[THE RINGS INSTANTLY COME TOGETHER AND A SLIGHT WHITE FLASH FILLS THEIR CENTER. LIJHO DISAPPEARS. ]
Multiscreen Lijho disappearing from Genocy-A and appearing in the Ryuka ring on Paseo
LIJHO WALKS OUT OF THE POD, AND THROUGH THE LOBBY OF THE RYUKA CENTER. HE STOPS TO PULL A PIECE OF PAPER FROM HIS BACKPACK. THE CAMERA SHOWS THE PAPER IN HIS HANDS WITH AN ADDRESS ON IT. THE CAMERA CUTS TO A LOW SHOT OF THE BRIGHT LIGHT OF THE OUTSIDE SPILLING INTO THE RYUKA CENTER AS LIJHO WALKS OUT THE FRONT DOOR. THE CAMERA STAYS ON THE SHOT UNTIL THE DOOR CLOSES.
Camera cuts to Lijho outside the Ryuka center looking around taking in the fresh air and freedom. Then cuts to a closer up of him with a look of apprehension on his face.
Lijho walking the streets of Paseo. Things look familiar, yet different from how much they’ve changed. He thinks to himself, and later comments how he feels like a ghost in his own life.
Lijho stops to have breakfast and coffee in the diner he used to go to all the time.
Lijho leaves the diner and walks to the address on the paper he had in his backpack- his best friend Eckley’s apartment.
Eckley just got out of the shower when Lijho rings the doorbell to his apartment. He tells him he’s getting ready for work, but he’s more than welcome to crash here as long as he needs to. There is no key to the apartment; everything is bio-metrics, so Lijho will just hang out at the nearby internet cafe he used to go to while Eckley is at work.
Lanferno. The cyber cafe where Lijho used to frequent before he was captured by the Paseo.
Lijho in the old cyber cafe he used to frequent- “Lanferno”
View of ‘The Guild’ website on the computer screen in Lanferno. Lijho looks up his old profile to see if it’s still active and if he can log in.
Lijho asleep on the couch in Eckley’s apartment before the earthquake strikes. The Nova skyline can be seen in the background illuminating the apartment.
